Quilt binding calculator

Questions

How many binding strips do I need?

Add up all four sides of the quilt, add 12" for corners and joining, and divide by the usable width of your fabric (about 40"). Round up.

How do I join binding strips?

Join strips with a diagonal seam at a 45° angle to spread the bulk, trim to ¼", and press the seam open.

What about bias binding?

Bias binding is needed for curved edges and uses more fabric. This calculator is for straight-grain strips cut across the width of fabric.
